Environment

First we should consider the surroundings in which we are about to use our voice.

Let’s avoid dusty, unaired, or moldy rooms. But what else? Take this quiz:

Warm Up

Just like a sportsman needs a warm up before running, so does a singer. Without it he’s under threat of an injury.

In the beginning it’s good to do several breathing exercises, for example:

  • imagine a cake with a 100 lit candles on top of it, try blowing them all at the same time
  • hold a sheet of paper vertically about 15 cm away from your face, try to blow hard, so that the sheet reached horizontal position
  • turn into a hissing snake, trying to hiss as long as possible on one breath (the harder version of this exercise consists of strenghtening and weakening the hissing sound)
